The Silverado is the second best-selling vehicle in America. Updating it is not a small thing. And Chevy didn’t treat it like one.

In June 2026, Chevrolet pulled the wraps off the completely redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500 — calling it the most powerful and most advanced Silverado ever built. Two new V8 engines, a tech suite that finally meets the moment, a ZR2 that’s never been more capable, and a High Country pushing into full luxury territory with a panoramic sunroof as a Silverado first.

What’s actually new on the 2027 Silverado

Start with what’s gone. The 5.3L V8 is out — for the first time since the 1999 model year, a 5.3-liter won’t be in a Silverado. Its replacement is a 5.7L with more displacement, more power, and a claim to the class lead in naturally-aspirated V8 output. The Ram Hemi makes 395 hp. Ford’s 5.0-liter makes around 400 hp. Chevy is making a move.

The exterior carries the Silverado’s identity — still unmistakably a Chevy truck — but every panel is new. New LED headlights and taillights, bolder front fascia, more pronounced wheel openings, reworked rocker treatments, quad exhaust tips standard on multiple trims.

Inside, the transformation is even bigger. The current base Silverado shipped with a 7-inch touchscreen. The 2027 starts every trim with 16.3 inches.

Engine lineup breakdown

2.7L TurboMax (upgraded)

The current 2.7L I-4 makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. For 2027 it gets a performance bump and pairs with a new 10-speed automatic. For most daily drivers, this engine is more than enough — smooth, efficient, and won’t hammer you at the pump.

3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel

No other full-size half-ton offers a diesel. The 3.0L Duramax inline-six currently makes 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. A reported 2027 variant is expected to hit up to 1,000 miles of range on a single tank, thanks to a larger fuel tank and the diesel’s efficiency. If you rack up highway miles, this one is worth a hard look.

5.7L V8 — all-new Gen 6

The replacement for the 5.3L that’s been in GM trucks since 1999. Chevy calls it the most capable naturally-aspirated V8 in the class, expected around 400 hp. GM invested $579 million into the Flint Engine Plant and brought key manufacturing in-house to improve durability over the outgoing engines.

6.6L V8 — all-new Gen 6

The range-topper. Replaces the 6.2L V8. Expected around 475 hp. Official numbers and towing specs arrive closer to the on-sale date. A plug-in hybrid is reportedly in development but wasn’t part of the reveal — don’t wait on it if you’re in the market now.

Interior and technology

The current Silverado’s tech has been a weak point compared to Ram and F-150. The 2027 corrects that in a big way.

Every trim gets a 12.2-inch digital driver cluster and a 16.3-inch center touchscreen. Last year, the largest screen was 13.4 inches. Base trims started with 7. That’s not incremental — it’s a generational jump.

ZR2 and High Country add an 11.5-inch front passenger screen, a head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror — firsts for the Silverado nameplate. The Multi-Flex center console offers 25 liters of storage and converts into a workstation. Dual wireless charging standard on upper trims.

Super Cruise now includes hands-free towing capability on equipped trims. No other truck in the segment offers that. Long highway hauls with a trailer get a lot less tiring.

High Country gets a panoramic sunroof — a first for any Silverado — real wood accents, custom seat treatments, and available microfiber suede. It’s pushing into legitimate luxury truck territory.

Trim lineup: all seven levels explained

Off-road capability: ZR2, Trail Boss, and more

Three lifted variants in one lineup is a statement. Chevy read the market — off-road demand is up, and the 2027 Silverado gives buyers more options than the segment has ever seen from one nameplate.

The ZR2 is the real deal. Desert race-proven Multimatic DSSV dampers paired with jounce dampers handle high-speed terrain and rock-strewn trails without sacrificing on-road ride quality. Standard front and rear electronic locking differentials. And the new forged carbon-fiber trim on the ZR2 interior is a notable first — GM’s first use of forged carbon decor on any production vehicle.

The Trail Boss sits below the ZR2 with the same 2-inch lift and 34-inch tires, without the full DSSV damper setup. Solid choice for buyers who want real capability without going full ZR2. The Custom Trail Boss brings similar hardware at a lower entry price.
