GM and Honda have announced the commencement of production at their joint venture facility, FCSM, marking a significant step in hydrogen fuel cell technology. The facility, located in Brownstown, Michigan, was established in 2017 with a joint investment of $85 million and has already created 80 jobs.

The collaboration aims to produce hydrogen power solutions for various applications. According to Suheb Haq, President of FCSM, this marks a historic moment in the industry. Tetsuo Suzuki, Vice President of FCSM, highlighted the integration of Honda and GM’s strengths in creating an efficient production system.

Engineers from both companies have been working since 2013 to develop a next-generation fuel cell system, doubling durability compared to previous models. The focus has also been on reducing manufacturing costs without compromising quality, making the new fuel cell systems significantly cheaper to produce.

FCSM has prioritized quality and productivity, implementing automation techniques to enhance manufacturing efficiency. The collaboration between GM and Honda aims to deliver affordable hydrogen fuel cell systems for zero-emissions applications.

Both companies believe in the potential of hydrogen and fuel cell technology to address future energy and mobility needs.
